Naivasha

Naivasha is located in Kenya at the northern end of the Rift Valley.

It sits along the Nakuru/Nairobi highway which is the main highway running out of the port of Mombasa, through the center of Kenya, towards Nakuru city. Naivasha is known as a cosmopolitan town. That is to say, people from different tribes, within Kenya and tourists, primarily from Europe, bring with them their own languages, cultures and religions.
Naivasha’s largest industry is agriculture with their largest export being cut flowers. Other industries for Naivasha are tourism, geothermal energy and cattle.

The flower farms employ thousands of people, paying them an average of $1.50 to $3.00 per day. Most of the employees have an education up to the 6th grade. The employees from these flower farms live in one of 7 slums surrounding Naivasha.

As you drive around Naivasha Lake along Moi Kai road. You see the dicotomy in life styles with lake side resorts housing tourist’s, versus the flower farm workers dwelling in the slums. Between them are corridors built to allow the wild animals access between the lake and grasslands.
